Public Notice 2010 Census
What is the Census?
Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau conducts a headcount of every person living in the United States, as mandated by the U.S. Constitution. In addition to determining Congressional representation and allocation of federal and state funds, the Census helps describe who we are as a town, county, state, and nation.
The 2010 Census forms (English) (Spanish) will be comprised of 10 short questions and will be mailed out to every address in the United States in March of 2010.
Why is the Census Important to Apex?
- A successful census count is very important to Apex because an accurate population number means more county and state revenues come into our local community.
- Last year alone, $6.1 million was collected in population-based revenue, accounting for 22% of Apex’s budget.
- For every man, woman, and child who is not counted in Apex, we lose thousands of dollars in revenue over the course of a decade.
- The census also determines how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as the boundaries of legislative districts, which can effect who represents Apex.
