
The Apex Police Department Patrol Division is divided into four squads which work twelve hour shifts. The patrol division is responsible for answering calls for service, investigating motor vehicle crashes, working traffic, serving warrants, and making arrests.
The patrol division also provides various other services to the citizens such as child seat installation, community talks, and police tours. The patrol division works traffic complaints which may include stop sign violations, speeding or parking complaints. The Youth Services Division consists of police officers assigned to various schools to handle incidents at the school as well as build a positive relationship between the police and our younger community. School resource officers offer a variety of services to include teaching law and justice classes, the dangers of alcohol, and building self-esteem and confidence.

The Apex Police Department Criminal Investigative division is compiled of investigators with years of training and experience who work a variety of cases. The investigators spend many hours following leads, building evidence and following the case through the court system. The investigators work crimes such as person crimes, property crimes, financial crimes and computer crimes.

The Communications Center, also known as the 911 Center, operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is responsible for answering all 911 and non-emergency calls for Apex. The Communications Center personnel also dispatch Police, Fire, EMS and after hours Public Works services.
There are two primary job functions within the Communications section. When a telephone call is received by the Center either via 911 or on a non-emergency line, the Telecommunicator enters the information in the CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) system. The information is then prioritized for dispatch.
The center is equipped with the latest technology in order to maintain the Town's commitment to quality service. The main components include Enhanced 911, Computer Aided Dispatch, Emergency Medical Dispatch and Telecommunications Device for the Deaf TDD).
