Mission Statement:

The Apex Fire & EMS Department will proudly and continuously protect life, property, and the environment from fire, medical emergencies, natural disasters, and other emergencies for those who live, work, and travel in and through the Town of Apex and surrounding districts with competent, professional, and honest personnel.”

fireThe Apex Fire & EMS Department has five stations which are located at 210 North Salem Street (#1), 3045 New Hill-Holleman Road (#2) in the New Hill community, 736 Hunter Street (#3), 1615 East Williams Street (#4), and 315 West Williams Street (#5). Additionally, we staff a 24-hour paramedic ambulance that is located at Cary Fire Station #6 at 3609 Ten Ten Road.

Fire & EMS personnel are assigned to one of three shifts that work 24-hour rotations.  Each shift has up to 20 full-time fire and EMS personnel, as well as part-time firefighters who work Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., excluding holidays. Additionally, 15 part time personnel work on an ‘as needed’ basis within the EMS Division.

The Fire Chief, EMS Operations Chief, Fire Marshal, and Deputy Fire Marshal work a 40-hour work week.  We also have a two full-time Administrative Specialists and a fulltime Staffing Specialist.

In addition to the paid personnel, there are also approximately 13 volunteers.

Whether paid or volunteer, our highly qualified, professional personnel are trained in a wide variety of fire, rescue, and EMS specialties.  In addition to the usual fire suppression and paramedic-level EMS response duties, the Fire & EMS Department also responds to a number of other emergency calls. The department currently maintains personnel on each shift certified in the following specialty areas:

The department is also an Advanced Life Support provider at the paramedic level.  All full time members of the Fire Division are certified to the Emergency Medical Technician level, while there are nine fulltime paramedics assigned to the EMS Division.  The Fire Division responds with the EMS Division on all life-threatening emergencies.

The Fire Division also sponsors an Explorer Post for individuals between the ages of 14 and 18.  These future firefighters participate with the Fire Department in training exercises and play an important support role in emergency situations.  The program is a great opportunity for younger citizens to get an early start on learning how to handle emergencies.

The Apex Fire & EMS Department also offers an extensive fire prevention/education program.  On average, fire personnel make contact with over 4,000 people annually.  Station tours are available upon request.

In conjunction with our public education programs, the department participates actively with NC SafeKids and through this program provides car seat inspections every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Station 3.  We ask that individuals wishing to have a car seat inspected please contact Amy Edwards or Kim Matthews at 362-4001 and schedule an appointment.

If you have questions about the services provided by the department or have interest in becoming a volunteer please feel free to contact us at 919-362-4001.
